In the year 2017, data breaches hit a record  high in the manufacturing industry. In this case, there were approximately 620 separate date breach incidences in the manufacturing industry alone. To put this into a clear perspective, a total of 1,579 were reported in the USA alone within the same period of time. Due to the connected nature of these manufacturing companies such as robotics, vulnerability to attacks is more common than any other sector.
In mid-June of 2015 for instance, the LC industries experienced a data breach, which resulted in the loss of more than 3,700 customer records. The data which was hacked included a public report from the NH department of justice. The hackers used a malicious code and successfully embedded it in one of their retail sites and further investigations revealed that the code was used to gather personal information.
