Recently, cyber threats have intensified especially in social media channels such as Facebook and WhatsApp, which uses owned messaging application, and which has further proven susceptible to facilitating such related scams. In one of such instances, WhatsApp users were able to receive a message from one of their contacts, which claimed to offer a limited one-time deal on a free streaming service membership. As a sign of goodwill to its many users across the globe and in light of the coronavirus related lockdowns, the link prompted to forward those messages to 10 other contacts. Once this was initiated, scammers were able to sell users credentials to other accounts, which would have a ripple effect on future account holders as well as taking over other multiple attacks.
