Most of the non-profit organizations usually receive donations from various donors online, which puts personal information at risk. To counter possible data breaches, organizations need to beef up cybersecurity and purchase cyber liability cover. Such a scenario might put non-profit directors in a cold sweat because the personal and financial information of thousands of donors could be at risk of exposure. According to SC magazine, Utah Food Bank experienced such a breach and had to answer questions on why names, credit card numbers and email addresses of their donors were compromised. It stated that unauthorized individuals gained access to information of more than 10,385 donors through the food bank’s donation web page.
