Securing the number one spot seven years after their initial breach of records, Yahoo noted that their records had been exposed. The company first publicly announced the incident, which took place in 2013 and December of 2016. At that particular time, Yahoo was in the process of being verified by Verizon and later estimated that account information of more than a billion of its customers had been accessed by the hacking group. A year later, Yahoo announced that the actual figure of hacked users account had reached an alarming 3 billion. However, the company acted fast by stating that with the revised estimate, it did not in any way represent a new security issue and that it was in the process of sending emails to all the affected customers.
