When the department of water and power was hacked in Los Angeles in the year 2018, it took a mere six hours for the hackers to gain access. An intruder was able to hack into hundreds of computers, which were related to various water systems across the united states in Portland and Oregon. The hackers were able to install malicious software onto a grid, which provides power to a chunk on the Northwest. The threat was real as discovered by cybersecurity firm Dragos. The United States began taking necessary steps way back during the Clinton administration, which identified 14 private sectors as critical infrastructure including chemicals, defense and energy as the main targeted areas. This subsequently triggered regulation in the finance sector to be implemented.
