All kinds of businesses have been affected due to the constant rise of data breaches, and the retailing industry have not been spared. It has been reported that at least 19 consumer companies had been affected as of January of 2018, of which many of them were caused by errors in payment systems either online or in the physical stores. Cybersecurity firm, Shape Security, noted that 90% of consumers who login to a retailer’s e-commerce site are hackers using stolen data. In Marcy’s store for instance, some of its online shoppers’ payment details were affected after hackers accessed its checkout and My Wallet pages. On realization, the store alerted its customers about the issue and assured them that the case was being addressed and security measures have been put in place.
